save the world Western Parotia Dancing and Mating | Earns a "Like" from Female

A male Western Parotia, a member of Bird of Paradise family, dances well enough to earn a "like" from a female judge perched above him. Consequently, he seizes his well-earned prize -- the right to mate. The dance performed is called "Paper Parasol", since it is based on an inebriated pub patron twirling a cocktail umbrella.

During courtship in New Guinea, the male performs a ballerina-like dance with his elongated black plumes spread around like a skirt, below the iridescent breast shield. During the spectacular dance, he shakes his head and neck rapidly to show the brilliance of his inverted silver triangle-shaped head adornment to attending females.
